Functionally these can absolutely compete with GA – only the performance was painfully in my situation (s)
The loading of a more detailed query is so slow, that I 9 of the 10x get back a timeout from the server;. will undoubtedly lie on my setup … but makes it unusable for average use
Asynchronous retrieval queries (what they recommend if you want to show a range of example one month.) unfortunately offers no solace.; it is still very slow all (sometimes so slow that I can not even display statistics … so then it will have failed).
For that reason I started the WordPress sites (which Piwik turned) to migrate to the free Smart Stat alternative; https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-slimstat/
Draait also on your own server, it can not be blocked, provides many options (enough for 99% of most customers) and is super fast.
Unfortunately, however, you lose your old Piwik stats, but if you are handy you can place them manually in the WP-DB.
Google is not an option for me, for several reasons – otherwise it was of course the easiest.
