Software self-propelled Google car gets status of ‘driver’ – DuurzaamBedrijfsleven.nl

The software in the onboard computer of a self-propelled car will by the US regulator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) equally be seen as a human driver.

That’s to make a statement Alphabet, parent company Google has received the NHTSA. Alphabet asked the regulator for permission last year with its self-driving car, which no steering or brake is present, to be allowed on the road.

The NHTSA proposes an autonomous vehicle similar to a car with a driver. This is a major hurdle removed in the placing on the way of a self-driving car, partly because the NHTSA is a federal agency. The supervisor shall be a condition that the self-propelled vehicle has a brake pedal.

The self-propelled vehicle of Alphabet has yet to undergo a test of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. If this is successfully completed, the car basically in all US states to the road.
