Software makes maintenance more efficient infrastructure – DuurzaamBedrijfsleven.nl

Canadian scientists have developed software designed to make maintenance of road, water and sewer infrastructure efficiently. This saves possible maintenance costs and can reduce the environmental impact of repairs.

Scientists from Concordia University have combined different variables in the development of software for water, sewer and road networks . Based on risk factors and disruptions in the infrastructure due to eg broken parts, the software makes it possible to specify which locations are to repair.

for example, ask municipalities prioritize repairs of urban infrastructure and thereby save on maintenance and replacement. In addition, the software makes it possible to carry out the repairs efficiently, thereby there occur no repeated maintenance works in a short time. This reduces both the inconvenience to users of infrastructure and the environmental impact of repair work.

“Problems of urban infrastructure are generally common in different cities,” said Tarek Zayed, scientist at Concordia University. “With this software we can improve the planning of maintenance work and better involvement of the various parties for the work. The software provides such a holistic approach to improving urban infrastructure. “

Scientists have conducted a pilot project of the software in the Canadian city of Guelph. This showed that the software in the short term in different Canadian cities and has even applied globally, say the researchers.
