Apple’s software is likely to be a joke – Computerworld.nl

Steve Jobs has repeatedly said that Apple is a software company and that he meant (see the video below for example). He described the iPad, iMac and iPhone as a beautiful box, but the secret of it’s software. Today, the software is more of the past than hardware tech items. So there are complaints about the quality of core apps on iOS and Mac and iTunes music, iCloud and Photos

.

No sense in iTunes

A columnist for the LA Times begins its complaint with iTunes, an application that Apple for years should bring the blush of shame. I just use it to manage my devices and refuse to use it to play music. Give me rather something like Winamp to play music.

iTunes is complex, slow and there is too much bloat in

We are not the only ones who abhor iTunes. Walt Mossberg of Re / code, formerly of AllThingsD and one of the few journalists that Jobs talked with, said recently: “I’m reluctant to open it.” He finds the software complex, slow and that too much bloat in it. I agree with that. Mossberg said otherwise, however, that “generally, and in most scenarios work well with Apple’s core applications, sometimes even magical well.”

Other people are less forgiving. Apple watchers as John Gruber and Jim Dalrymple align themselves with tech blog Engadget with the complaints about the software and move to third-party apps.

Software logger

Where does this by? The columnist has two issues on which he might well be right in. The first is that Apple is more interested in achieving its annual release schedule rather than wait until the product is actually ready. It is not logical that development takes more time if the software becomes more complex.

You must use your eyes to see bugs and fails when you everyone for tying a blindfold

the second point is that Apple’s products are built around a core layer that is outdated and that the company would have to rebuild the software from the primer. I do not totally agree. The author gives Windows 10, but that the core does not change correctly. It is the same kernel as previous versions and same driver model in place since the transition to 64-bit Vista.

more open development

I personally think that Apple’s end must make its culture of secrecy – a remnant of the Jobs era. Microsoft developed Windows 10 very public and it worked well. Linux does it always with a lot of openness about what is going on. You must use your eyes to see bugs and fails when you everyone for tying a blindfold

One thing is certain. The criticism is not good news for Craig Federighi, Apple’s chief executive who heads state of the software division. I remember that an Apple event was where he stage dominated with his charisma and personality and people on Twitter concluded that he would be the next Apple CEO.

Create software again beautiful

If he wants to achieve, he should focus more firmly on the software and stop the release of versions of iOS and Mac are filled bugs. He must ensure that iTunes, iCloud and other apps are enjoyable to use, otherwise he soon stands all day on a square in front of a Starbucks in Cupertino with Scott Forstall.
