Opel in Belgium secretly software updates performed on its Zafira Tourer 1.6 diesel engine. The Belgian VRT news reported today based on their own research.

Last year, VRT reported that the Zafira’s nine times more nitrogen oxide emissions than allowed. After visiting the dealer, however, it decreased emissions ‘spectacular’. Opel said that this had to do with the vehicles. The manufacturer rejected in January all the allegations .

VRT has recently repeated the test with two almost exactly the same Zafira’s. The only difference was that one of the vehicles, a Dutch Zafira, before the disclosure of the VW diesel scandal at the dealer and the other was a Belgian, after diesel gate at the dealership (to change the oil).

The test shows that the Dutch car 873 milligrams NOx emissions and the Belgian 203 milligrams. According to the news can be explained only by a software update.

Reaction Opel
In an official response, Opel says that the tests do not meet the standardized type approval test and denies still “strongly” the allegations of VRT.

“We have a multitude sent to ask for VRT to get clarification about their approach. So far we have received no answers. Treating such a complex topic as NOx and CO2 measurements actual conditions on such unscientific level only gives rise to uncertainty among customers and the public. “
