“Software integration is stumbling and budgetbom” – Computable

Linking software is a complex and difficult a predictable job. As a result, budget overruns. This is the debate proposition given today presented Computable readers.

Projects in government information systems are notorious for their multiple outlet. ICT projects are in terms of scope, in terms of budget and in terms of complexity. Besides political influence that can change the requirements, software integration is often a major stumbling block. Tying together different – whether or not older – systems using intermediate software is a complex and previously difficult to estimate in the job. See for example, the US space agency NASA which for a software project is now on a budget overrun of 77 percent.

It’s ongoing development program for ten years for a system to oversee a rocket launch in all its aspects, monitor and possibly break off . This includes the mechanical systems of the missiles, fuel levels and many other systems and subsystems involved. NASA has long since opted for integration, also to avoid dependence on a single supplier. There must be a (hefty) price to be paid. Software integration is a stumbling block and budgetbom. What do you think
