Not so long ago the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere. The film has put me to thinking about the duality of good and evil. Like the epic war between the Jedi and The Sith in a galaxy far away from here, we also supply closer to home a struggle. I’m talking about the fight against the theft of intellectual property of software.
The constant cat and mouse game between content owner and illegal user is a war in itself. As an employee of a security party I feel obliged to go to war with my lightsaber.
Illegal software
We know it omogelijk is to stop piracy completely. What we can frustrate the internet pirates as long as possible so that the financial losses from copyright owners be saved. The way software is purchased change: business users only want to purchase certain features, use the software on devices of their choice and pay only for what they actually use. This brings many challenges.
I find that pirated software, reverse engineering and violation of the license conditions provide the necessary problems. So I stumbled over a decade ago about a leak of a client and discovered a serious offense: it was the latest Stars Wars movie. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith would almost premiere
Of course, we have informed the customer right, but as a fan of the series I was placed in an awkward position.. Like the Force, my desire for cool content great, but my sense of duty greater. The epic battle in my head between good and evil was George Lucas worthy. Since then I have lost my heart to software monetization.
Episode 1 Episode versus 2016
in recent years much has happened in the area of software licenses. More and more companies take applications via the Internet and should pay here based on actual usage at. The possibilities are extensive, but the danger increases. Unfortunately, problems still occur frequently.
Business software users see rigid contracts, time-consuming processes for registering customers and the loss of license keys as the biggest pitfalls. By solving these issues, you reduce the chance of conscious and unconscious misuse. Research shows that the main preferences regarding software licensing company-wide licenses are licenses for business locations and licenses for concurrent users.
Companies that are trying to solve problems at the tactical level, often tend to be the larger picture to forget. It’s my job to help them look from a strategic point for the license. How to protect it and how we can maximize the revenue of software?
It might not be the most glamorous profession and hackers curse us, but we protect companies from millions of euros of damage. And with a little imagination you can software monetization experts see as the real Jedi in the galaxy software.
