The “internet explorer” in Wine is not based on MSHTML but on Gecko (Mozilla). Not that there are no security problems it can be natural.
You will not easily suffer a rootkit or other kind of nasty malware in Wine, because that simply will not work, but you are indeed not immune to security problems.
If you want to do it safely, you ensure that everything within Wine as a separate Linux user running, which only has write access to its own homedir, and furthermore only has access to the necessary.
Should you only as worries documentjes you end up in the right place.
I think this is incidentally a bit exaggerated, but when you work with software that is known to be unsafe, it is perhaps worth.
