Groningen software against human trafficking – Dagblad van het Noorden

Groningen – The company Open Index Groningen develops software to detect smugglers for the renowned research Darpa in America.

Three years Open index gets to develop software that traffickers can be detected. The company works with a number of other specialized companies from America and Ireland in a team called Team Hyperion Gray.

How does it work?

Search smugglers on the Internet, how does that work? ,, Traffickers recruit applicants through websites. Darpa follows these sites. The smuggling networks are getting bigger. You will not find them easily. Internet is much larger than we see on Google. That is only a portion indexed. In the gray, difficult visible region occurs most ” says general manager Jan Albert Jonker (40).

Developing the seven men of Open Index and search engines for business websites, webshops and knowledge bases. They have a lot of experience with searchable making large amounts of data. Is working with Open Index ‘web crawling’.

engine

Simply put ,, we download as many websites. The information goes into a search engine. For smuggling project, we have developed a web crawler with artificial intelligence. One that focuses on everything that has to do with human beings. ”

More specifically Jonker can not. ,, We can say nothing about it. “” There is an atmosphere of secrecy surrounding the project. US Government, search on the internet: it does not feel what uncomfortable since Edward Snowden the shady practices of US intelligence has laid bare? Suppose you unknowingly participates in a major espionage project

,, That was our concern too:. What is the final product? But we work in the public domain. We operate within the lines. And besides, the aim is to tackle traffickers. That’s a nice goal. We are working towards a better world, ” said colleague Jack Forest (43).
