‘Distrust proprietary software is always “- Automation Guide

: Correctly size the image ?? -> Richard Stallman
Richard Stallman

According to Richard Matthew Stallman , who is called the father of free software, the world would do well to make proprietary software under the spell. “Distrust proprietary software, because before you know it you’re stuck with a door to malware,” as Stallman told his audience at the Chaos Computer Conference in Hamburg

<- Highlight -> <- Feature ->

Stallman is clear in his views:!!!! only free software is a guarantee for programs that are free of loopholes, cracking roads and other leaks. He is founder of the FSF, the Free Software Foundation, and fight constantly against software that allows espionage.

Proprietary false

The proprietary or proprietary software is uncontrollable and that Stallman an eyesore, “We do not know what a company stops all its software and which bodies agreements have been made. In the free software world, we do not have that, everyone can view the source code and if someone has figured out a back door, then that is immediately noticed and stopped them. ”

Saas = Spyware

Also Stallman should not have much of the phenomenon of ‘cloud’. “You give your data rate to an external party, which provides a service in the form of Saas. Everyone thinks you thereby Software-as-a-Service means, but it is often Spyware-as-a-Service. Do you know exactly which come your data and what they do with it? ”

Active defense

Stallman called the audience, consisting largely of hackers, to actively fight for secure software. Free software must ensure that the parties remain neuzende out. “Fight for the freedom of your and other people’s code, the software does not fall into the hands of dark parties,” says Stallman.

Bright delivers Stuttgart University HPC software – Computable

<- Googleoff: Index -> <- googleon: index ->

Bright Computing, Amsterdam provider of management solutions for clusters and clouds, provides software to the institute for aeronautical University Stuttgart its high performance computing (HPC) cluster will manage. The Oscar-management suite (Open Source Cluster Application Resources) that the university originally used to manage, install and monitor the cluster, the increasing complexity could not absorb well.

The Institute for aerospace in Stuttgart used the HPC cluster in the data center of the university primarily for computer-aided engineering, by calculation of structures and do simulations using smart software. The data center has grown significantly over the years and the complexity of the cluster is therefore increased.

Unlike the current Oscar management suite has purchased Bright Cluster Manager user interface and allows the software users with a few mouse clicks to perform management tasks quickly. Especially the user-friendly nature of the software was for aviation researchers an important reason for choosing the hpc-management software, says Bright Computing.

Bright Computing develops products that help customers HPC, Hadoop-, storage , manage database and workstation clusters, both locally and in the cloud. Bright has offices in Amsterdam and in San Jose, California. The company received last summer a substantial investment of eleven million from a number of US investors to further international growth

“Espionage Campaign used commercial software” – Security.nl

In an espionage campaign that focused, the attackers used commercial security against military targets in Israel and Europe. That, scientists from security Crowd Strike and Cymmetria know yesterday during the CCC hacker conference in Hamburg.

It is the penetration testing software from the US Core Security, which can be tested in various vulnerabilities. The company claims that the software can test 25% more unique vulnerabilities than the competition. It’s been known for years that cyber criminals use penetration testing software such as Metasploit. With more targeted espionage campaigns often deployed proprietary malware, plus all kinds of free and familiar software. The use of commercial software was usually avoided because the trace to a particular customer back.

The use of proprietary malware and tools, however over the years in various campaigns were found to make it easier for researchers to attribute these activities to a particular country. By using the software of Core Security, which costs between 10,000 and 20,000 dollars, the attackers could hide their tracks. It would also help countries that do not yet have extensive cyber espionage opportunities to increase their arsenal. “The most likely answer is that they did not have the ability to do it themselves,” said analyst Tillmann Werner told Reuters.

When attacked organizations was an e-mail with an Excel spreadsheet sent to senior executives in most cases. The spreadsheets were provided with a malicious macro. If the user gave permission to execute the macro, which is blocked by standard Office, malware was installed. This malware then downloaded a part of Core’s Core Impact tool. Core Security says that it is not permitted to use the software by third parties. Nor is it known with abuse of the tool in the past five years. If, however, there is evidence then the company will cooperate with an investigation.

Logistics Software, Annual Review 2014 – Logistiek.nl

The year 2014 was the year when two large Dutch software companies lost their independence: Quintiq and Exact. During the fair ICT & amp; Logistics was presented the first electronic consignment. And what else happened in 2014?

The most spectacular news this year came from Den Bosch. One of our national growth pearls, software company Quintiq makes mid-summer the takeover deal by the French Dassault Systemes announced. Dassault, in our country, an unknown name, focuses on software for 3D design and product lifecycle management, and will adjust the Quintiq planning software here obviously good at. The name Quintiq remained after the acquisition to his feet and the company is pushing as usual on the road with advanced planning software for complex planning puzzles.

Another large Dutch player who this year was acquired is ERP vendor Exact Delft. In October it was announced that there was a bid by the British investment Eiger Acquistions. The management of Exact sympathetic to state here, but quite definitely the acquisition is not because the Authority Consumer & amp; Market (ACM) has yet to give approval. Or ownership exchange then serious consequences will have to Exact’s strategy is not to say, striking was the sudden departure this month of Marinus ter Laak, chief executive at the division Exact Business Solutions.

Acquisition Kewill

In the market of transportation management software was Kewill that came up with takeover news. In October, IBM TMS was Sterling acquired, a solution which is mainly used by large international companies such as Heinz.

While Kewill walked the takeover, competitor JDA presented a new business division within logistics service providers will focus. The decision stems from the acquisition of RedPrairie in 2012, whose name in the sale of new software will not be used

Good news for all providers of supply chain software:. The market is growing this year 7.3 percent. According to Gartner, who announced this in May, and supply chain software remains an important link in the league race between companies making investments in the coming years will be maintained. The supplier who most benefit here is the market leader SAP, followed by Oracle and JDA.

Company Wide ERP less popular

An important trend that signals Gartner is that companies invest more in solutions than in comprehensive software suites. Company-wide ERP implementations seem at the moment just not as popular. And certainly not the government! In January, the government announced that the ERP project Speer at the Defence probably 900 million is going to cost twice as much as the 481 million that was allocated for first!

The ERP market is in an exciting phase, said Professor Hans Wortmann at a meeting of Baan users in Epe. The cloud coming sector players (Google, Rabobank) on the market that offer pieces of ERP functionality for specific business applications. ERP vendors come to sit in a “networked” environment where they must ask themselves what their value is still: software make or deliver a service

During the annual fair ERP for manufacturing companies, the Business Software event in Eindhoven, early Henk Smit, CIO at Fokker aloud whether ERP anyway has a right to exist. “Because of the internet of things will soon all interconnected We especially need specific applications we here plug & amp;. Play can join in, and it is only the question of what is left of our current ERP remains.”

Scoop: digital waybill

One of the most striking innovations this year was Trans Monitoring, a project led by logistics IT company Beurtvaartadres with no more data on a mission via a paper bill but are exchanged using a mobile application. The fair ICT & amp; Logistics had in October the first: there was first in the world demonstrated how by holding two mobile together can sign a bill of lading. This month saw the start of the first pilots gone.

Also in synchromodal was news. TNO Research Institute launched in October a platform for companies to share real-time data synchromodale transportation. This can be saved, according to the creators much travel time and waiting times at terminals and distribution.

Linking digital, logistics data and make it available through a platform, it is a new business line where many new companies respond. Dutch companies like Trad Cloud and Incore offer longer supply chain platform services to businesses, and earlier this year a new company was born: Store Link, co-founded by Jeroen van den Berg

The omnichannel revolution

Connectivity above functionality, which was the title of the report of the WMS-day organized Logistiek.nl in April for the nineteenth time. The main trend WMS is the emergence of e-commerce and the integral organization of order flows along online stores and physical stores: omni channel. Eddie Capel, CEO of software company Manhattan Associates, spoke at a meeting in Rotterdam even an omni channel revolution, where physical shops form an integral part of the supply chain and are controlled by software as if it were a sort of mini-warehouses.

Physical stores are mini warehouses, consignment be digital, ERP will collect a (fragmented) and service platforms, and linking supply chain data to each other and to create new services. It was another exciting year. On to 2015.

Android smartphones get Kodak rms software for relatives – Tweakers

If you are older audience, then you should really take the necessary ..

From my work I come regularly to the elderly who, sometimes from their own intrested but often imposed by (younger) a family (occasionally used) Smartphone purchased or received. However, the average senior from about 70 years here with some problems, experience it as an irritation or at least a step backward

The main issues are:

– Battery life. . With their old Nokia dumbphone (if necessary provided with a fresh battery) has a standby time of one week feasible, where you can be pleased with many smart phones with a day, although this generation but little effect on the device is: Occasionally a photo, rainfall alarm or for ladies Wordfeud, that about sums it together apart from calling and a few who reads text messages.

 – Puny. The elderly often suffer from osteoarthritis and the like. With trembling hands and whether or not it is damn sight worse difficult to hit the right buttons. That was on the dumbphone sometimes tricky but on average smartphone one is really wrong with what often used unnoticed two fingers, keep your finger on the screen for too long or wipes when removing the finger across the screen. Everything with them unwanted side-effects. The visibility is often a problem by the average text size. Of course you those scales but the average senior abhorred al l configuration options and if they tie one making it for them then the layout of the system to his granny and it is 200% for most too small.

 – Difficult. Though a bit appointed in the preceding paragraph but the average senior has less easily learn. The changeover from dumbphone to smartphone is a world of difference.

Perhaps the next generation of seniors has, over a year or 10 to 20, less problems with it (as smartphones in their current form uberhaupt still exist) because they started it much earlier but for the present generation with the current range of products rose with us the following advice:

 – Call, just use a dumbphone, if necessary with extra large keys and voice feedback of the act
.
 – Touch screen device, use a large tablet (minimum 9 “) and take there a stylus with good grip, for example, the thickness of a fountain pen
.
 – Place a loader at the bed and make it load the habit at night on the nightstand. Another advantage is that, there are problems were, the phone within reach (or rather is in a dock so that troublesome charging cable also do not need to be gepriegeld it)

If Kodak, or another manufacturer, well agree with these findings – they also make their own because this is pretty universal – the battle would go and really would try to come up with a seniors smartphone, which is really a gap in the market, I think
And till the time that device there is is an iPhone 6 plus, with a stylus and a loading dock, I think the best option. The reason is the durability (material), size, less complex control and ease of locking / unlocking the device. There are also relatively more accessories available for each specific iPhone model than an average android / windows phone making a suitable dock is found quickly.

Of course, some aspects are more / less weighty than others and will need to be considered specific for each senior.

Software Update: Honey View 5:08 – Tweakers

For years my standard program. I use it regularly to read archives with images by such old comics and mangas. In addition, I can easily do two pages at a time, and the pages from right to let go to the left (for manga). It also has a so-called preview mode:. Right an archive with images and you will see a mini-preview of an image

For me it is the perfect viewer.. Fast, small, minimal UI as you like, many browsing capabilities, many supported formats. I use him by now even on my job ;) I can heartily recommend their archiver Bandizip. In terms of features it does not include for winrar and it is freeware, with a much better UI than 7zip, imho.

Annual Review IT and Software – SOLV.nl (Blog)

In the software world has possibly the Berzona jurisprudence stir this year most of the dust. The Supreme Court said in the Nebula judgment of 2006 that the liquidator should denounce the agreement if bankruptcy (active failings on the part of a passive obligation), in 2014, the Supreme Court that it still was not quite as intended. It would just be reciprocated: a passive right to failings on the part regarding an active operation. User rights on software are provided for bankruptcy remain apparently (s thankfully) still intact.

In the ICT area, the government had much to endure in 2014. ICT policies in government seems rather to “rattle”. The final report of the inquiry which showed that as many as 1 to 5 billion a year is wasted due to the derailment of ICT projects in government. In May 2014, Minister Hennis-Plasschaert in the House already that there may be major ICT problems were in defense. Also decentralized apron rather in the ICT field. Municipalities scoring namely a thick enough (average 4.3) with respect to the design of their digital information and services within the social domain.

In 2014 appeared cybercrime, but also its approach to a growing phenomenon. Minister Opstelten (V & J) in July 2014 concluded in the report Cyber Security Assessment Netherlands Netherlands that has an interest in a robust approach to cybercrime. This year has been widely blogged about this issue, as on skimming, hack proposal (computer crime III), the smart card and of course the “biggest leak ever in the Internet”: “. Heartbleed”

Finally, Minister Opstelten mid-October 2014, the bill Litigation Digital submitted to the House, which will bring exciting developments in 2015.

Software Update: Driver Fusion 2.7.0 – Tweakers

However, a picture puzzle. It is not to say that open than candy is not yet installed. After having been a misleading message about “ad supported installer” while installing adware in reality, with independent updater / installer, which sometimes may contain malware.

Furthermore, I’m not so keen on driver fusion. It can prevent these default drivers knew from windows, so when removing a driver, the screen unusable.

Software Update: Unchecky 0.3.5 – Tweakers

Or vice versa: actually it’s ridiculous that you can not install a chosen self program without having to watch all kinds of additional programs along like elevators and standard are checked to display instead of the choice is yours whether you them want to check or not. The default should be that nothing is checked.

I help quite a few people in my family and acquaintances who are not super technical and sometimes have no patience with updates etc. which makes them want to click quickly resulting in all sorts of extra toolbars, search settings that change and I know what misery all

If you read in the article that the “poor” developers is also a sandwich to eat, then I think to myself. They just leave for the company to work for which they are offering that annoying stuff because if you download it then it’s at least your own conscious choice rather than one you accidentally make because you’ve seen a tick overlooked.

As for me, this is a program / tool that standard Windows would have.
A thick 10 with a plus. _ / - _ o

Software defined high on the agenda in 2015 – Marqit.nl

In 2014, a piece of realism breakthrough in IT, says Guido Nobel, manager at Unisys Netherlands. “This year was the realization that you build a complete data center no longer itself but a specialist obtains here.” Now that step is put also qualify him as the higher layers as-a-service turn. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) for non-specific applications, platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) as a platform for integrated functionality and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) as a generic infrastructure for testing, and bursts flexible infrastructure needs. “IT as Nobel in 2014 has become less special. “The dominance of the original IT department has become smaller and IT projects without intervention of IT are more common.

But in 2015, a number of developments that have recently come forward, break through final continues Nobel. “Cloud is not hype, big data is not a term that people are excited. Exciting terms or software defined, social and Internet of Things (IoT). ‘

1. Software defined

Especially software defined state in the coming year high on the agenda, says Nobel. In 2014, it was responsive clarified the challenges software defined says Harm de Haan, consulting manager at Telindus, but according to him, there is still much confusion about the term. He creates here to explain clarify that software defined is not only to create a virtual environment, but also the complete separation of the functionality of the technology, making the IT infrastructure is programmable.

“In 2015, most organizations are not yet ready them the software defined technology already existing environments can implement large-scale, but this will take place in stages, “says De Haan. Ruud Mulder, lead storage architect at Unisys, thinks the traditional data center, where it was thought especially in silos, in 2014 by a transition will make to the software defined data center. But according to De Haan will happen in stages and not yet widespread. “Most organizations will be there in 2015 have yet to be ready.”

This transition to Data Center 2.0 will be a logical consequence in itself, Mulder continues, ‘as we all year and day are busy virtualizing compute, such as servers and workstations. “Now, organizations according to him, in the broadest sense of the word the entire data center virtualization into a single hybrid infrastructure. “The deployment time of new services and processes will be shortened with this, and there may be more rapid response to new trends. As a result, IT departments have more time available for innovation instead of managing and maintaining the air of all silos. Hardware will be increasingly commodity and intelligence will be moved to the software layer.

It also made it easier to invest Mulder external services. “The software defined data center will lead to a more hybrid approach. Which is much flexibility as a logical consequence will have. The effort in the field of management will decrease, because the virtualization of the entire data center ensures that one capacity, performance and possible bottlenecks can gain insight and manage from a single management suite. It will therefore be easier to introduce such things as chargeback and forecasting, with the result that IT may not be as just a cost center is seen. “

in 2015 will anyway be important for IT managers realize that there is software defined, according to De Haan. Software Defined requires a change of mindset: first must be perfectly clear what functionality should provide the IT infrastructure before we allocate them. This sounds obvious, but it is not so obvious. Software defined is a game changer that increases the flexibility of the IT department. “

2. Internet of things in plain view

Another development that has reached critical mass as Nobel the IoT. “It’s not new, but the scale and scope increasingly visible. The sensors of the IoT will communicate with our business applications, our IT infrastructure and most importantly. The users’ The way they take IT to him is, predicts The Nobel increasingly integrated, intuitive and graphical: Social computing.

3. More attention to OpenStack

Also OpenStack get more interest in the coming year, expect Sietze Reitsma, networking solution architect at HP. OpenStack seems to be, according to him on the way to the data center automation / orchestration platform of the future. ‘Commercial parties such as Cisco, VMware and Microsoft all trying to get their share. However, the power of Open Source development seems to win specific vendor solutions. “Reitsma says that by embracing Network Function Virtualization (NFV) by the OpenStack community, providers can significantly cut costs and become more responsive to the needs of customers . “In particular, the self-service model offers opportunities. By further optimization of hypervisors and accelerated vSwitches by companies such as Wind River and Intel software based appliances can supplant hardware variants. This in combination with multi-tenant support OpenStack will be a key trend for the coming years. “

4. Managed security services

It does not matter whether the infrastructure is now wired or wireless, segmentation or zoning of the client systems to the data is important, says Peter Mesker, Technical Director at Secure Link. “Over the past year, many examples come by DDoS, APTs, malware, vulnerabilities and targeted attacks on virtually all organizations.” This, according to him endorses the need for layered and integrated security at the highest level. “Additionally, an innovative and flexible design of the infrastructure, services, and automated management requires.” Mesker will therefore only logical that organizations increasingly rely on managed security services.

Virtualization in the data center is a trend that is growing rapidly, says Mesker. “More and more enterprise customers will applications from private-, approach called public or hybrid clouds, where applications should always be readily available. To the large amount of logging and data, which are generated in the public and private infrastructure, due to the (security) devices to process, it is necessary to analyze this real-time in order to gain a better understanding and control as well as increasing the security level. “

According to Mesker it is obviously important to invest in proper security systems at major demarcation of the infrastructure. “The continuous monitoring and detection and subsequent action (incident response) are also crucial to avoid a security failure.” Often organizations according Mesker think you’re safe with having the appropriate security components in the infrastructure. “But nothing is less true. It requires a continuous adaptation of the security policies but also continuous monitoring in order to detect where possibly infected endpoints are. “After all, says Mesker, targeted and not previously identified attacks can still possible cause damage and so-called patient-zero (the initially infected system) should still be cleaned up. “A managed security service which not only provides monitoring and alerting but actually also analytics, forensics and incident response so provides, is therefore essential in the fight against cyber crime.”

5. Best Value Procurement gaining popularity

Best Value Procurement (BVP) begins to be popular, now also in IT, says Hans Kateman, outsourcing consultant at KPN. “Is that because of the philosophy ‘give the expert space’, or is it because it seems to be a relatively simple tender process, Kateman asks himself. “It is probably a combination of both, as yet mainly pragmatic approach seems to appeal to a purchaser. This leads also to more successful outsourcing relationships? Probably only if all those involved in customer and supplier also embrace the philosophy behind and go into practice. Not only during the tender, but also in the execution. “So far it is unfortunately not always concludes Kateman. “But when we are all striving to be Best Value Procurement 2015 a successful trend.

6. Quality is more important

Finally, predicts Rob Verplanke, managing consultant at KPN Consulting, that the importance of the quality of services will be increasingly recognized in 2015. This will apply to both suppliers and customers. “It is a supplier of date that products are delivered that are not very high quality, but cheap. A product or service should be good for a reasonable price. The price hunters who see buy cheap products and services afterwards that insufficient quality is delivered and warranty at all is no. “Verplanke finds that a product or service best little cost may be, if the underlying (management) costs and warranty therefore are better. “A reliable product or service is essential for your own services.
