Business software does not respond to user – CIO.nl

What is striking is the discrepancy between what IT thinks end users use software and that users themselves say they wager within a package: IT treasure functionality using 20 percent higher. That might indicate that they develop needlessly for the user

.

The cause for this is the 550 respondents to the survey (pdf) indicates that end-users are not involved in the development process of software. Henk van der Pol, Unit Manager Cloud Applications Info Support states that functionalities are offered because they happen to be available. “Whether end users are waiting there is barely raised. It would mean a great saving if you would just leave out a quarter of the unnecessary features.”

Another interesting result of the survey is that IT departments 74 per cent of their spend on software. Of the total available time 23 percent is invested in innovation / development of new software. The rest is spent on management, maintenance and development of existing software.

Software Update: R & D ShutUp10 1.0.1343 – Tweakers

Well, people are also still just as paranoid against Google? I use Xprivacy, but unfortunately my e-mail still goes through Gmail, from a time when I was not as aware of the privacy stuff. Changing e-mail address is really terrible. But in Android, you can protect your fine against privacy violations by Google, by just a Google account to use it and none of the apps from Google. Granted that few people do

I think one reason why people at Microsoft are even angrier than at Google is that this is new:. Formerly Microsoft Windows a lot better in terms of privacy, but now they are so nearly as degraded as Google and Facebook, or so it seems at least as many people (if it’s true, I leave in the middle).

A second reason is that people usually pay directly or indirectly for Windows, and a paid product that you expect less spying. If it is free people can accept the spying easier if their payment for the free product.

IT overestimated use business software – Managers Online

Research: Most people use half of functionalities not

August 25, 2015 Most end-users use between 40 and 60 percent of the functionality of the software they have at their disposal, while IT is expected that the focus of using higher:. between 60 and 80 percent

According to research from NovioData commissioned by Info Support among 250 IT managers and 300 end users of enterprise software. Both groups were asked what percentage of the offered functionality is actually used in the workplace.
Where 26 percent of IT expects usage is above 80 percent, it appears in practice that only twelve percent of staff software used so extensively. Only two per cent of end users say they use all these features.

This gap can partly be explained by the non-involvement of end users in the development process of software. The statement “End users are not always involved in the development process of software” answers 31 percent (completely) agree.

Software gobbles budget and on time
The study also shows that the acquisition, development, management and maintenance of software a large part of the budget and the time of the IT department swallows. For each euro IT spends, 79 cents goes to software. About 74 percent of the time is spent on software.
“This study shows that there are often functionalities are offered because they happen to be available, without prompting discussions on whether end users have actually been waiting,” says Henk van der Pol, Unit Manager Cloud Applications Info Support . “When you consider that these tasks are a great deal of time and budget IT gobble, then there get much improvement. If even a quarter of redundant functionality would no longer need to be managed and maintained, that would be a mean big savings One possible solution is to involve users in the early stages of software development, called the agile approach One method to ensure that end-users are constantly served in their wishes and needs, is Continuous delivery;.. new features are briefly -cyclic developed and delivered to the end user. This IT departments is still a lot to gain. “

Many features in business software remain untapped – WINMAG Pro

Many employees of organizations have a lot of functions of the business software they use ignore. This is the finding of NovioData commissioned by Info Support.

For the survey 250 IT decision makers and three hundred end-users were asked about the use of software. Thus, both groups were asked how many features of the software is being used effectively. 32 percent of end users appear to use between forty and sixty percent. This while 34 percent of IT decision makers believe that this number is higher, between 60 and 80 percent.

Report

Following the investigation, a report was published, The gap between software development and use. According to this report the difference can be explained by end-users are not or not sufficiently involved in the development of software.

Cost

That it is important to know which features of software used is because a large portion of the IT budget is spent on the management and tracking of issues related to these functions. And this obviously costs money.

Save

“If even a quarter of redundant functionality would no longer need to be managed and maintained, it would mean a big savings,” says Henk van Peet, unit manager, Cloud Applications at Info Support. To prevent this, end-users at an early stage should be involved in the development of software.

For the report, the gap between software development and use here.

Developers come with software to test safety Android Apps – Tweakers

Developers of the social networking site LinkedIn have released a first test version of an analysis tool by which the security of an Android app can be tested. The software also provides a description of the potential hazards of the vulnerabilities.

To check if the vulnerabilities are actually exploited generates QARK adb commands that previously had been using. Partly because the tool actually creates a test application that allows vulnerabilities in the Android app to show, writes security researcher Tony Trummer LinkedIn.

Despite the automation of finding vulnerabilities, Trummer recommends that organizations still Manual security audits to execute. According to him, there are always namely undiscovered vulnerabilities that can be exploited. In addition, server-side APIs are yet to be explored and, how logical, too, “no perfect tool.

The LinkedIn developers say the next time to tinker a lot to QARK. They want to include the number of false positives and false negatives return.
